“Soon afterward he went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s household manager, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their means.”
(Luke 8:1-3 ESV)
Dear Friends of the Risen Saviour,
Christian greetings!
That’s the Church! – Right there in these first verses of Luke chapter 8. It’s people being with Jesus. And why? Well, how could they not abide with Him? The Lord had called the 12 disciples and they followed. But others through Jesus had experienced healing, being “healed of evil spirits and infirmities.” They just had to stick with Jesus.
Me, I’d go crazy without Jesus. Oh, I try to go without him when my sinful nature tricks me into thinking that I can run my life and that I know what I really want and know what is best for me. Yeah, right! But when I go that way a while I realize anew that I really need the Lord Jesus. He heals me. He forgives me and restores me. He is my life and hope. He gives purpose to my life. How can I be a casual consumer of His blessings? How can happily receive what I want from Him and then exclude Him from my daily life?
Worship Him! Read His Word. Be acquainted with all His ways. Talk to Him (pray). Serve Him. Love Him.
See you in church this Sunday! “Worship the LORD with joy! Enter his presence with joyful singing!” (Psalm 100:2 NET)
The Lord be with you!
