“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.”
(Psalm 62:5-6 ESV)
Dear Christian Friends,
You really should be reading your Bible. Why not join us in our daily reading at PoP? It is really awesome right now reading the Book of Isaiah. A recurring theme in the book is the futility of false religion – trusting in anything or anyone that is not the Lord God, Maker of heaven and earth.
There’s some of that notion in the verses from Psalm 62 above. The writer is talking to himself, something I’ve been known to do as well (Maybe we all have!). He says, “Hey, soul! Wait in silence for God alone! The Lord has an answer for you. Don’t let your faith ‘be shaken’ while you wait for Him to guide and provide.” That may be hard to do while you are up against it.
But it sure beats putting your hope in money or career or the economy or promises from politicians or recreation.
“God alone … is my rock and my salvation.”

LCC twenty-five years later: Is the fire still going? This year, Lutheran Church-Canada celebrates 25 years since its founding convention. To recognize the anniversary, The Canadian Lutheran asked LCC’s first President, Rev. Dr. Ed Lehman, to reflect on the last 25 years. To that end, we’ve reprinted his 1988 article “Feed the Fire” (which appeared in the July 1988 issue after LCC’s founding), and asked him to provide a response. See that response in “LCC 25 years later: Is the fire still going?”
