“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
(Hebrews 13:8 ESV)
Dear Friends,
Greetings in Jesus’ name.
At the pastors & deacons conference from which I just returned (Monday – Wednesday in Niagara Falls), a group of us were reflecting back on the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. One pastor remembered that he reworked his sermon extensively to make it speak to his people who obviously were upset over what had happened. Another said he had no need to do very much readjusting. He recalled the above verse was included in one of the readings and he tailored his message based on that text.
How true! Times change – people change – circumstances change – our emotions change. But no matter what, whether it’s something internal or external that is troubling us, Jesus Christ is forever God’s eternal Son. Eternally it stands that He came into human history and did His saving work for you and me. As it says later in the same chapter, “Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood.” (Hebrews 13:12 ESV)
Your aspirations and circumstance rise and fall. Sometimes you find yourself just worn out. But fear not, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
You know the current popularity of the posters that begin, “Keep Calm and …” with various creative endings. This leads me to ask you a question: as a Christian reflecting the verse above from Hebrews 13:8, how would you complete the phrase, “Keep Calm and …”? No, I’m not going to ask for your answer. I’m sure there could be many. I’ll leave that to you to ponder.

An idea: I have an idea about starting a lay group of visitors to members and friends of Prince of Peace congregation. These compassion visits would supplement my pastoral visits. Let’s talk it over, Tuesday, November 24, at 7:00pm at the church
