“According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
(1 Peter 1:3-5 ESV, Suggested reading: all of chapter 1)
Dear Friends,
Greetings in Jesus’ name.
From the Today’s Light Bible, I share the following:
It may surprise you to know that your whole life story appears in the Bible. In fact, you just read it! 1 Peter 1 gives the biography of every Christian who has ever lived on earth. This is your story and mine:
- Before creation, God chose you (1 Peter 1:2) – elected you (1 Peter 1:1) – to belong to Him. Your real home is with God; you live here on earth as a stranger (1 Peter 1:1).
- God sent the prophets for your sake, so you could hear and believe the Gospel (1 Peter 1:10-12).
- God has worked new life, spiritual life, in you, and He has written your name into His will. You have become, in Jesus, His child and heir (1 Peter 1:3-4).
- Right now you are enduring various kinds of trials. These bring you grief, but God is keeping you in faith (1 Peter 1:5-7).
- Despite your hardships, you live in the joy He gives you – a joy too full for words (1 Peter 1:7).
- When Jesus returns, your life experiences and faith-walk will bring praise, glory, and honor to Him (1 Peter 1:7).
Aren’t those the important pieces of your life story? Life is Christ. The rest is only details.

Even if you haven’t been able to read every day, you certainly had opportunity to grow in God’s Word. And that is something I pray you will continue in some fashion going forward. “Thy Word is a lamp onto my feet, and a light onto my path.” (Ps. 119:105 KJV)
Did you know that we’ll have concluded the 2-Year Through-the-Bible Reading Program on September 10? It will be a significant accomplishment in drawing near to the Lord through His Word for everyone who committed to this personal goal.

In your prayers, please remember:
- Brad currently hobbled with foot, leg and back difficulties
- June undergoing treatment
- Ester who is undergoing tests
- Pastor and Mary Hambrock whose daughter is recovering from cancer-related surgery and awaiting test results
- Those who are troubled, distressed, persecuted, deprived and endangered, especially Christians in Iraq who are being forced to choose between converting to Islam, fleeing the country, or death, that the Lord would provide and deliver
- Peace in places of strife: between Israel and Gaza, and in places like Syria and Ukraine
- For all those who travel this summer
The Lord be with you.
