“A bruised reed he will not break,
and a faintly burning wick he will not quench. ”
(Isaiah 42:3 ESV)
Dear Christian Friends,
Does your faith seem weak? Has your faith been taking a beating? Are you suffering the discouragement of others? Are you dealing with sickness or family strife? Are you experiencing financial panic? – All these test our faith. Where is God when it hurts like this?
You are not alone. Jesus – who appeared on earth in order to be bruised for our transgressions – understands our difficulties and has vowed not to snuff us out but to sustain us.
He comes with rescue speedy
To those who suffer wrong,
To help the poor and needy
And bid the weak be strong;
To give them songs for sighing,
Their darkness turn to light,
Whose souls, condemned and dying,
Were precious in His sight. (Hail to the Lord’s Anointed, LSB 398, verse 2)
Jesus – “A bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench. ”

Other News …
New Year’s Day Resolutions abound with thoughts of better physical fitness and quitting bad habits. How is your spiritual fitness? How about adopting a holy habit? – daily Bible reading! Back in September of 2012 many members of Prince of Peace enlisted in and began a 2-year journey through the Bible. Currently we are reading the book of Amos (see schedule for the week below). In 2014 we will reach and complete reading the New Testament. If you are not yet in, it would be a great time for you to join the Bible reading effort. Ask the Lord to motivate you to read His Word this year. Just follow the readings. We have in the office copies of the Today’s Light Bible which divides the readings into days accompanied by devotional explanations to the readings.

In your prayers, please remember:
- Our East District President who is scheduled for knee replacement surgery on Wednesday, January 8th. May we all keep him in our prayers. The following is offered as a sample prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, hear our prayers on behalf of Your servant as he undergoes surgery. Bless him with faith in Your loving kindness and protection. Endow the surgeon and the medical team with ability and skill so that, according to Your will, this surgery may bring Your servant to a full restoration of health and strength; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. - Those undergoing treatment for cancer
- University and College students beginning a new semester
