“(God) sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever.
Holy and awesome is his name!”
(Psalm 111:9 ESV)
Dear Friends,
Greetings in Jesus’ name.
Awesome! The Toronto Blue Jays have won 11 games in a row and rank at the top of their division.
Awesome! Somebody somewhere in Quebec, I think, bought a multi-million dollar lottery winning ticket.
Awesome! (If you’re into disasters) the explosion in a Chinese shipyard was so massive it could be seen from space.
Awesome! I missed it, but I heard there was a meteor shower in the night sky in our area this week that was just that – awesome!
These kind of events are all amazing and capture our attention.
But they are as nothing compared to what happened in the world when God’s Son came into the world to redeem us and thereby receive us as His people. And yet, it seems to most people to be an old, old story. Here is the story in summary:
“What is man, that you are mindful of him?” (Hebrews 2:6 ESV)
“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. … God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:6,8 ESV)
“For our sake (God) made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV)
Now that’s awesome! In fact when we are in heaven, we will never ever be bored and shall ever be enthralled with all the Lord has done for us.
“When we’ve been here ten thousand years
bright shining as the sun,
we’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
than when we’ve first begun.”
(final verse of Amazing Grace)
Awesome! “(God) sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name!”

“God Hidden in Our Work” That is the theme of this Adult Bible Class this fall on the calling of every Christian by the Lord in the place where they are during the week.
“Stump the Pastor” Youth Bible Study: I will be leading this Sunday morning group (9:15-10:15). The class is for confirmation age students and older. Breakfast in class is an option being considered. More importantly for you, confirmands and youth, your suggestions are sought for questions and topics of interest to be covered. I’m calling it “Stump the Pastor” till you come up with a better name for the class. Talk to me or send me an email at pastor@poplc.ca .
Ladies Appreciation Dinner: The Men’s Breakfast group of Pilgrim have decided to host a Ladies Appreciation Dinner (…. and you thought men don’t appreciate all that women do!). Because a couple of our men attend their monthly breakfasts, they have decided to invite women of Prince of Peace to attend as well. The Dinner is Saturday, October 17 at 5:30pm. RSVP if you like to attend on the sign-up sheet in the lobby here at PoP.
Banana Cram Confirmation Retreat: This district-wide retreat is geared specifically for confirmands and there are generally 30 confirmands plus their counsellors and other leaders. The weekend retreat is scheduled for October 23-25 (Friday evening through Sunday church) here at Prince of Peace. We are happy to be hosting them and will be asking for assistance in feeding them.

A Note from Jeffrie & Miriam: We were incredibly blown away by the kindness and generosity of the Prince of Peace family at the baby shower. Thank you to everyone who attended the shower, and to those who contributed to the generous gifts and signed the beautiful card. We felt so blessed, not only by the gifts, but by the love and support that was shown. We are very excited to enter into this new stage of life with our family, and look forward to sharing this with you during our visits. – God’s blessings, Jeffrie & Miriam
