“ I have set the Lord always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I shall not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure,
because you will not abandon me to the grave,
nor will you let your Holy One see decay.
You have made known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
(Psalm 16:8-11 NIV
Dear Friends,
Greetings in the name of Jesus!
David writes this psalm with great faith that the Lord will help him. He trusts that God will not abandon him in his hour of need.
We know of David as a shepherd and as a king. But here in this psalm he is also a prophet. He writes of something that will come to pass a thousand years later when his son – several generations removed – will be crucified and three days later, instead of decaying, will rise from the dead. Jesus is the Son of David who came as the Messiah, laid down His life to take away your sins and mine, and then rise victorious over death and devil.
And that’s not just my opinion. The apostle Peter’s preaching recorded in the Book of Acts confirms it:
God raised (Jesus) up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it. For David says concerning him, “I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken; … My flesh also will dwell in hope. For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One see corruption.” (Acts 2:24–27 ESV)
For us today and because of the risen Jesus, we too have hope. Our bodies also shall rise to new life by the power of this risen Lord.
Therefore, we do not fear. We are filled with joy in His presence. We shall not be shaken.
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
