I am excited to serve the Lord and His flock here at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, and the greater community of Burlington, ON as He sees fit.
A bit about me. I grew up in rural Ontario, and as such I’m a bit of a country boy at heart. My road toward preparation for fulltime service in the church was a long and dusty one, similar to some of those country roads from my youth. I studied History and Visual Arts at the University of Western Ontario, while there, I played varsity Football for the Mustangs. After graduating from Western, I moved to North Bay, where I received a Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University. Subsequently, I spent a year teaching in North Bay; after which time I returned home to Norfolk county to continue teaching. I spent the next 10 years teaching and coaching at the High School that I had once attended as a student. During that time, I was blessed with a wife, Stephanie (who is originally from Kitchener), and our family grew. God has blessed us with four loving and energetic children, Kaleb (10), Ethan (8), Hannah (5) and Nathaniel (3).
But it’s not about me, it’s about Jesus. Our Heavenly Father has seen to it that learning, studying, and teaching have been constant themes throughout my life. These themes are echoed in the catechetical and sacramental life of every Christian. The more we dig into God’s word, the more the Holy Spirit unfolds its depth and riches for us in and through Christ Jesus. As we grow in the faith, it grows with us; strengthening and building us up as members of His Holy Body the Church. Together we learn from Jesus, as he feeds and nourishes us through his Word and Sacraments. I look forward to continue serving you as your pastor, bringing you Jesus, as we walk together in the grace, mercy, and peace of our Heavenly Father.
If you need pastoral care, please feel free to email me pastor (at) poplc.ca, or contact me through the church at (905) 332-7671. If you’re up for a chat and maybe a coffee (or tea), drop by the church, I’m in most mornings… although it wouldn’t hurt to call ahead.
In Christ,
Pastor David Zakel
