Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray.
The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me
and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
(Mt 19:13–14 ESV)
Dear Christian Friends,
The scene was pretty dramatic when parents, who obviously thought Jesus was Someone special, brought their children to be touched by Jesus. The serious disciples thought this was not a good use of Jesus’ time – seeing that He was the Messiah and all.
But there He was – Jesus in the flesh – with outstretched arms to receive the children.
Jesus is not standing now before us in the way the disciples experienced. However, Jesus did promise He would be with us “always, to the end of the age.” (Matt. 28:19 ESV) Also, the Bible tells us that we, His modern-day disciples, are His hands, feet and mouths in the world. “Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” (1 Co 12:27 ESV)
So here we are with outstretched hands awaiting the arrival of children for VBS. It is not too late to gather some more. Jesus loves them too. Talk to parents and encourage them. I asked a Mom just last night while leaning over our fence at home. Even if they miss the first day we will still welcome them. Let’s do it in the name of Jesus.

Would you still like to read the Bible in two years? – The Today’s Light Bible is divided into weeks and days. You don’t have to have started at the beginning of our two-year plan, you can start today! Two years from today, you will have read the entire Bible. (We still have copies of the Today’s Light Bible available in the office for $29.) May God bless your study of His Word.
Back To Church Sunday! On September 15 we are holding our first Back To Church Sunday. It will be an effort involving everyone! Think for a minute of someone – a relative who is not involved in a Christian congregation, a PoP member and old friend you haven’t seen in church for a while, a neighbor you’ve met, a co-worker going through a difficult time – you get what I mean. Begin to pray now about who you might invite on September 15.
Also, I would like some help with arrangements (refreshments, name tags, etc.). Talk to me if you’re interested.
Choir practices begin on Thursday September 5 at 7:45 p.m. If there is anyone who would like to join the choir please speak to Diane Bates. As always, new voices are welcome. However, in order to prepare for the September 5 practice, Diane would like to speak with newcomers before August 25.
Confirmation –classes begin on Wednesday September 4 at 7:00 pm for students in Grades 6, 7, 8. If you haven’t already done so, please speak with Pastor if you know of someone who would like to join this year’s Confirmation class.
If you have any members/children who are planning on post-secondary education, September is just around the corner. If they will be moving away from home to attend school, we would love to help connect them with a local congregation. Please email campusministry@lcceast.ca with their names, email addresses, and the schools and in mid-August we will send them emails inviting them to a nearby LCC church and copying the pastor so he knows. We would also welcome info on returning students who have not yet found themselves a church home away from home.
Thank you. East District Campus Ministry Committee
(P.S. Please copy the email to me at pastor@poplc.ca as I would like to stay in touch with them as well.)
