“At (Christ’s) coming all people will rise again with their
bodies and give an account concerning their own deeds. And those who have done good will
enter into eternal life, and those who have done evil into eternal fire.
This is the catholic faith; whoever does not believe it faithfully and firmly cannot be saved.”
(from the Athanasian Creed, printed entirely at the bottom)
Dear Christian Friends,
On the train to Memphis (Yes, Carol & I went to Memphis on holidays), I read a book about Keith Green, a wayward hippie from California who was a very talented musician and who became a Christian. His straight forward lyrics have long inspired me. He died too soon.
Well, when I try to understand the startling words that conclude the Athanasian Creed read last week on Trinity Sunday, I think of the words to the song pasted below. Keith wrote it as Jesus speaking to His Christian children (note the words in bold):
My son, my son, why are you striving.
You can’t add one thing to what’s been done for you.
I did it all while I was dying;
Rest in your faith, my peace will come to you.
For when I hear the praises start,
I want to rain upon you
Blessings that will fill your heart.
I see no stain upon you,
Because you are my child and know me.
To me you’re only holy.
Nothing that you’ve done remains,
Only what you do for me
Songwriters: Keith & Melody Green,
You see? The creed also says, “God and man is one Christ, who suffered for our salvation.” All that is evil and wrong in us is dealt with by Christ’s suffering and death. Now, as His children of faith all that we do is a holy and pleasing offering to God. “Nothing that you’ve done remains, Only what you do for me.”

This Sunday is the last regular lesson time for the 2012-2013 Sunday School season. To celebrate, we will all meet downstairs for refreshments and a movie. This is for children AND adults. It will be a wonderful time giving thanks to God for our Sunday morning learning time. We start at 9am.
Senior’s Lunch: When Senior’s Lunch showed up on the calendar the day after the church picnic I thought of cancelling it. But why? For those unable to attend the picnic, here’s another chance to get together. So, on Monday, June 10, let’s gather for a potluck lunch at noon with games following. Simply bring something to eat and something to play.
Opportunity to help: A single mom with three teenage girls is getting re-established in an apartment and could use some assistance. Specifically, some food for the cupboard and clothing for the girls would be most help. Contact the PoP office if you have something.
The photo directory is coming together. We are now asking for photos of anyone who was unable to be at the photo sessions but would like to be in the directory. You can submit a 4×6 photo to the office. The digital photos should be at least 1MB. They can accommodate JPEG, TIFF, PSD, PDF, BMP and EPS files. The company recommends that the photos be vertical and they can crop the picture to fit. They don’t want passport photos because they are too close up. If you submit a picture, you will still receive a free copy of the directory when it is ready. Please submit pictures by Sunday, June 2nd. The directory is going to be a great success thanks to everyone.
Looking Ahead …
You are all invited to our Church Picnic at 12 noon on Sunday, June 9 at Lowville Park (on Guelph Line, 6 miles north of Hwy #5). We’ll provide the hot dogs and drinks; you can bring a salad or dessert (and lawn chairs). There will be activities for all! This year we have Picnic Area #1 which is closest to Guelph Line (next to the Old School House).
VBS will take us on an expedition to the top of five mountains and teach you more about God’s might and grace and His Son Jesus. Registration is now open! VBS is for kids going into JK to those going into Grade 6. The dates are August 18 to 22, 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Get excited to sing fun songs, do crazy crafts, eat yummy snacks, and more. Plus, you’ll learn all about Jesus so that you can go tell everyone about Him! Can’t wait to see you there! Register online at http://www.poplc.ca/ or call 905-332-7671.

Blessed Lord, You have caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning. Grant that we may so hear them, read, mark, learn, and take them to heart that, by the patience and comfort of Your holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. (Collect for the Word, from the hymnal)
In your prayers, please remember:
- Those who are going through times of transition in their life due to age.
- Karoline Scherer at home recovering from knee surgery
- Pastor Matt Krey of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Amherstburg, who is very ill at home and requests our prayers and support. Please also hold his family, friends, and congregation in your prayers.
- The state of the nation in the wake of the death of Dr. H. Morgentaler. The National Campus Life Network, noted: “We are grieved at the destructive legacy that Henry Morgentaler has left…. We, as young people, have felt the impact of his legacy with a quarter of our generation having been killed by abortion in the quarter century since the R. vs. Morgentaler court case. We will continue to work with students across Canada to ensure that the next generation is spared the same fate.”
The Lord be with you.
Yours in Christ Jesus,
Pastor Kevin Walrath

Athanasian Creed
Whoever desires to be saved must, above all, hold the catholic faith. Whoever does not
keep it whole and undefiled will without doubt perish eternally.
And the catholic faith is this, that we worship one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity, neither
confusing the persons nor dividing the substance. For the Father is one person, the Son is
another, and the Holy Spirit is another. But the Godhead of the Father and of the Son and of
the Holy Spirit is one: the glory equal, the majesty coeternal. Such as the Father is, such is
the Son, and such is the Holy Spirit: the Father uncreated, the Son uncreated, the Holy Spirit
uncreated; the Father infinite, the Son infinite, the Holy Spirit infinite; the Father eternal,
the Son eternal, the Holy Spirit eternal. And yet there are not three Eternals, but one
Eternal, just as there are not three Uncreated or three Infinites, but one Uncreated and one
Infinite. In the same way, the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, the Holy Spirit almighty;
and yet there are not three Almighties, but one Almighty. So the Father is God, the Son is
God, the Holy Spirit is God; and yet there are not three Gods, but one God. So the Father is
Lord, the Son is Lord, the Holy Spirit is Lord; and yet there are not three Lords, but one Lord.
Just as we are compelled by the Christian truth to acknowledge each distinct person as God
and Lord, so also are we prohibited by the catholic religion to say that there are three Gods
or Lords.
The Father is not made nor created nor begotten by anyone. The Son is neither made nor
created, but begotten of the Father alone. The Holy Spirit is of the Father and of the Son,
neither made nor created nor begotten, but proceeding. Thus, there is one Father, not three
Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Spirit, not three Holy Spirits. And in this Trinity
none is before or after another; none is greater or less than another; but the whole three
persons are coeternal with each other and coequal, so that in all things, as has been stated
above, the Trinity in Unity and Unity in Trinity is to be worshiped. Therefore, whoever
desires to be saved must think thus about the Trinity.
But it is also necessary for everlasting salvation that one faithfully believe the incarnation of
our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is the right faith that we believe and confess that our
Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is at the same time both God and man. He is God,
begotten from the substance of the Father before all ages; and He is man, born from the
substance of His mother in this age: perfect God and perfect man, composed of a rational
soul and human flesh; equal to the Father with respect to His divinity, less than the Father
with respect to His humanity. Although He is God and man, He is not two, but one Christ:
one, however, not by the conversion of the divinity into flesh, but by the assumption of the
humanity into God; one altogether, not by confusion of substance, but by unity of person.
For as the rational soul and flesh is one man, so God and man is one Christ, who suffered for
our salvation, descended into hell, rose again the third day from the dead, ascended into
heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, God Almighty, from whence He will
come to judge the living and the dead. At His coming all people will rise again with their
bodies and give an account concerning their own deeds. And those who have done good will
enter into eternal life, and those who have done evil into eternal fire.
This is the catholic faith; whoever does not believe it faithfully and firmly cannot be saved.
