“Just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy
because of their disobedience, so they too have now been disobedient
in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy.
For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all.”
(Romans 11:30-32 ESV)
Dear Friends,
Greetings in Jesus’ name.
The words above are tough ones if you have been in the church all your life. The Jewish people figured they had it made simply because they were related to Abraham. But God saw their unbelief and disobedience and said, “You are out of favour with Me.” Jewish Pharisee Paul, now turned apostle and missionary for Jesus Christ, said that’s okay because his calling was now to preach to the non-Jew. But even as that happened he warned these new Gentile converts that if the Jewish people began to repent and believe in Jesus, they would be welcomed back to God with open arms.
None of us dare claim that we are better than anybody else when it comes to going to heaven. We long-time church-goers should never look down our noses at others. “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”(James 4:6 ESV) That means that we should be humbled by God’s love and favour toward us. And we should never see anyone else as being beyond hope. As long as there is life, there is hope – because there remains the opportunity to turn away from oneself and turn to Jesus Christ for the promise of eternal life.
As believers we can say, “Thanks be to God!” As we consider others who reject Jesus, we say, “But for the grace of God, so go I.” And so, we believe and rejoice, and resolve to tell others and pray for them.

It’s time to start thinking and praying about students for Sunday School and Confirmation instruction this fall. Know someone ages preschool through Jr. High? Let me know and you and I can arrange a way of inviting them.
A letter of invitation to our Sunday School is on the table in the church lobby. Take one and give it to someone who might be interested.
Calendar Update: Pastor William Gillissie will here to preach and lead the service on Sunday, August 31.

Even if you haven’t been able to read every day, you certainly had opportunity to grow in God’s Word. And that is something I pray you will continue in some fashion going forward. “Thy Word is a lamp onto my feet, and a light onto my path.” (Ps. 119:105 KJV)
Did you know that we’ll have concluded the 2-Year Through-the-Bible Reading Programme on September 10? It will be a significant accomplishment in drawing near to the Lord through His Word for everyone who committed to this personal goal.
You can listen to the day’s reading by clicking the links on our Bible reading webpage. Go to poplc.ca.
In your prayers, please remember:
- Brad recovering from back difficulties
- June undergoing treatment
- Ester who is undergoing tests
- Andrew awaiting an appointment with a surgeon following a spinal injury
- Those who are troubled, distressed, persecuted, deprived and endangered, especially Christians in Iraq who are being forced to choose between converting to Islam, fleeing the country, or death, that the Lord would provide and deliver
- Peace in places of strife: between Israel and Gaza, and in places like Syria and Ukraine
- Miriam & Jeffrie who will be wed this Saturday in Michigan
- For all those who travel this summer
The Lord be with you.
Yours in Christ Jesus,
