“Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward heaven, and said, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above or on earth beneath, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to your servants who walk before you with all their heart, who have kept with your servant David my father what you declared to him. You spoke with your mouth, and with your hand have fulfilled it this day. . . .
“But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you; how much less this house that I have built! Yet have regard to the prayer of your servant and to his plea, O Lord my God, listening to the cry and to the prayer that your servant prays before you this day, that your eyes may be open night and day toward this house, the place of which you have said, ‘My name shall be there,’ that you may listen to the prayer that your servant offers toward this place.”
(1 Kings 8:22–24, 27–29 ESV)
Dear Friends of the Risen Saviour,
Christian greetings!
The text from 1 Kings above was the Old Testament lesson for last Sunday. It is the prayer of King Solomon on the great day of dedication of the Temple.
My devotional idea for you today is simply since this is the 50th year of worship in our building at Prince of Peace, it is worth reading Solomon’s words while thinking about our facility.
For your information, here’s a little of our history: The Cornerstone of our church building was laid on October 2, 1966. The present church building was dedicated on November 27, 1966.
Oh, let us be humble, pray to the Lord in faith, and be thankful that He hears our prayers for Jesus’ sake! And let us be thankful for the facility the Lord has given us and not take our freedom to worship the Lord in our own building for granted!
The Lord be with you!

Seniors Gathering in Kingsville: All seniors are invited to a day of sharing, prayers, worship, and fellowship on Saturday, August 20 between 9:30 am and 4:00 pm. Guest Speakers are Rev. Paul Zabel , who will discuss “Cremation & Christians”; Rev. Robert Krestick, who will discuss “Physician Assisted Suicide”; and Mrs. Elizabeth Krestick, who will lead a discussion about “Age Friendly Congregational Life”. A BBQ lunch will be provided. Please RSVP: Eileen Wonnick gordonwonnick@sympatico.ca or 519-326-4841. It’s a distance but it would be fun if a couple of folks from Prince of Peace want to buddy up and take a field trip together. It sounds like an excellent programme.
