“He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.”
(Ephesians 4:10-12 ESV)
Dear Christian Friends,
Greetings in the name of Jesus!
I mentioned the verse above last Sunday after service during the announcements. It bears repeating.
Lutheran Christians sometimes wonder why our congregations don’t operate like corporations with Human Resource departments to interview and vet pastors in order to “get the right guy.”
The problem is who is “the right guy?” Does anyone among us really know? What might be important to one person might not be the same for another person. Where is the Holy Spirit in the whole process?
The bottom line is that Christ – who descended to us to “bear our sin and be our Saviour,” and who ascended into heaven and now rules over all things for the benefit of His Church – He is the One who places pastors into congregations that they might serve in accordance with His holy will.
Pray for our next pastor. He’s out there somewhere. Pray that God would prepare his heart to serve in our midst.
The Lord be with you!
